This Week in My Life…

In Odds and Ends by admin4 Comments

I have decided in an effort to blog more that I would do a weekly post of things that are going on in my brain, my world, my whatever.  It might not be very interesting to you dear readers, but I do like to go back and read through my old blog posts.  I’m hoping it will be a good way to document what I have been thinking about related to food, life, blogging, my family–anything really.  It will contain links to things I do, want to do or just love.  I hope you don’t mind this sort of brain dump.  It is good for me and my mind to get it all (or even partially out there).  {Note:  the picture above has nothing to do with anything you will find in this post.  I just love it.}

1.  I have started listening to podcasts during my commute to the office instead of NPR. It’s great!  I get to the office inspired and feel like I have just hung out with an old friend.  I would love to start my own podcast someday.   So far, I have only listened to a couple–Joy the Baker Podcast and We’re About to  Be Friends.  I am always looking for others though and really want to find some that give me motivation and inspiration to move forward with my business(es).

2. I love these time lapse videos, here and here!  I have been showing them to my classes that I teach (environmental science to college kids) and I just can’t get enough.  The fungi video makes me want to be in the woods in the Pacific Northwest.  I’m day dreaming of a Seattle vacation right now.

3. I’ve experimented with a few recipes this week including these honey lime chicken taquitos and these Chipotle-like burrito bowls.  I will definitely be posting about  the burrito bowls soon.

4.  I have been helping a few friends develop their web based businesses and realize I have learned a lot from this blog.  I know basic WordPress web design, have figured out social media (kind of ), and have a lot of knowledge about blogging, photography, writing, design and stuff.  I am proud of that and am excited to expand on it.  Maybe, just maybe, I can figure out a way to make it my day job one day soon.

5. I am working on a super secret project that I hope to be announcing around the 1st of the year.  It keeps me motivated and excited to move forward everyday!

6.  Monday will start my second Whole 30 Challenge.  I wrote a post this week about my last challenge.  Although I am anxious to get it started, I am a bit more reluctant this time around.  I am not wanting to give up my glass of wine each night or our family weekend pizza night at the Cock and Bull.  It is only 30 days though and September is a quiet month and I CAN DO THIS.  If you want to follow along, I am going to try my hardest to tweet and instagram about it daily.  Follow me there!

7.  Happy Labor Day everyone!  I am planning on cooking this and this, working on some website projects for a yogi and a travel agency, driving kids to various activities (as moms tend to do),   stand up paddleboarding at Robinson Preserve, installing my new SUP rack on my car, and sitting by (and in) the pool and soaking up summer.

Hope you all have a great long weekend!

    Hi Karla! I loved reading about your summer, your life and the Whole 30. Congrats on 30 days!! I feel so much better when I’m eating clean, and hubby and I followed the Daniel Plan (very similar to Paelo and Whole 30) for 50 days straight (no cheating) back in Jan, Feb and March. We felt AMAZING and had SO much energy!! Easter derailed us for a bit and we headed off on a sugar binge (lol!), but we’ve spent most of the summer about 60/40 or 50/50 with the plan. I got serious again a couple weeks ago, and am now about 90/10 which is part of the plan when not in detox mode.

    The 50 days we did earlier in the year were all in detox mode (no gluten, no dairy, no caffeine, no alcohol, no sugar). It really does make you feel about 10 years younger! My birthday is on 9/11, and I’m planning on feeling as good as I can….so I am loving being back on plan. It’s also been fun experimenting with new foods (chia seeds), and gluten-free baking. I’m so happy to find you are doing the Whole 30, and blogging more….I’ll be able to follow along your journey. ;) Great to “see” you again my friend! I haven’t put up a post since May, but have a couple almost ready to go….ready to jump back into the blogging world with both feet.

      Hi Denise, Great to “see” you too! It is hard for me to go 50/50 on the Whole 30–that was my plan once I finished the first time around. I guess I like rules and am much more likely to stick to a program if there is very little wiggle room. I’m not good at having one cookie. I have a great chia pudding post to get up this week–something I ate this summer on Kauai and love making now!

    Ooh, can’t wait to hear about your secret project!

    And ummmm, have you noticed your profile picture lately? ;)

      Haha! Yes! I have transformed quite a bit since you last saw me. I need to figure out how to change that! My friend helped with re-doing the site and his photo is there instead of mine. It makes me laugh everytime I see it.
